Addy, one of our friends, arrived today. I guess he is tired after waking up early to catch the shuttle heading for Schiphol airport. Tommorow we will probably show him Novi Sad. He will have to take notes because he has to write a story. Rule is rule, every visitor has to write a story, hahaha. (posted by Jitze, 24/03/07)

The world famous "Dutch dance Theatre", or better: 'Het Nederlands Dans Theater', will perform in Belgrade on April 14! I heard that their promotion campagne starts soon. If you want to enjoy modern ballet composed by the famous choreographers Jiri Kylian and lightfoot Leon (Kylian is more famous..) you have to get your tickets soon. The promotion banner looks great, the ballet performance will be even better! (posted by Jitze, 20/03/07)

Because of a very nice and warm weekend, including lawn mowing (less nice) there was a delay in publishing the Skopje pictures. Click here for pictures and a short story.(posted by Jitze, 19/03/07)

I just read, the book "The discovery of heaven" was chosen yesterday as the best Dutch book ever written. Harry Mulisch is the author and many Dutch high school students have read one or more books written by him for their Dutch literature exam. Max Havelaar by Multatuli, also known as Eduard Douwes Dekker, ended as third behind "Het huis van de moskee" of Kader Abdolah. A few years ago I went to see the film The discovery of heaven directed by Jeroen Krabbe at a European Film Festval in Seoul. I was completely confused after seeing it, did I understand the story or did I not? Maybe it is time to read the book......... (posted by Christina, 12/03/07)

Yesterday I was alone with Yde and Vibeke because Jitze left for a conference in Skopje. Although the weather was not very nice we decided to go to the center and see if Plato bookstore on Knez Mihailova was open. After checking the time table for public transport in Belgrade we took trolley bus nr. 41 and headed for the center. Yde and Vibeke loved the trip by bus and besides that it is much cheaper than a taxi, only 27 dinar if you buy tickets in advance. Plato was just about to open its doors and I showed Yde where the children's books were. He immediately saw the selection dinosaur books and decided to buy "discovering dinosaurs, small and scary". Downstairs at the bookshop we discovered a wide range of computer games, mp 3 players and dvd's. Vibeke liked the box of Strawberry Shortcake, a computer game made by the Learning Company. After paying for our our treasures we went home by bus again. Of course a happy children's day is not perfect when you do not pay a visit to a Serbian Mc. Donalds, so at 5.30 pm we went to New Belgrade by car and we had, according to Yde and Vibeke, a tasty happy meal. (posted by Christina, 12/03/07)

Bajadera, any idea what it is? I did not, until I tasted it. It is a nice dessert chocolate from Croatia, made by a company called KRAS. I received these bonbons as a gift, but I'm going to see if I can find them at the supermarket or somewhere else. Even at Amazon.com you can buy them if you are interested. I forgot to mention that at the cafe I had lunch this afternoon, also alocoholic drinks like whisky, gin, a large variety of cocktails and of course beer are served. I was told that "Hot Spot" is one of the few places where they sell the Dutch Bavaria Beer from the province of North Brabant. For Dutch people always good to know. (posted by Christina, 05/03/07)

I just came back from lunch at a place called Hot Spot. It is a nice student cafe and also when you are not a student you are very welcome. Located at Studentski Trg 21 it was for me easy to go there because the trolley bus coming from and going to my house stops around the corner. I had for lunch a tasty Club Sandwich with French fries, the last ones because Vibeke wanted to eat patatjes with mayonaise. Unfortunately Hot Spot itself does not have a website so you have to do it with this information I found on the web. (posted by Christina, 05/03/07)

Yesterday afternoon Jitze and I went to the 35th Belgrade International Film Festifal, FEST 2007. Not just to watch one of the movies but to see "Black Book". It is a film directed by the famous Dutchman Paul Verhoeven. For us it was nice to see a movie in our own language while visiting the movie theatre of the SAVA Center in Belgrade. We were surpised to see so many people visiting the festival, but with ticket prices of 200 dinars for premieres at 5pm, and 250 din. in the evening, every festival will be a succes.
