Santa's surprise

Although Yde really believes in our Dutch St. Nicholas he knows for sure Santa doesn't exist. Vibeke is more hesitant and probably thinks -if I believe in Santa he might bring me some presents-. So a few days ago we went to a nearby toy shop and bought a few presents to put under our Christmas tree. They wrapped them themselves and put them next to all the fake presents that Vibeke wrapped some days before. This morning they had their Santa's surprise, nerf guns. The nerf guns are really fashion on our compound and nerf gun battles are part of the daily fun. Yde thought this morning to have an easy fight with our nanny, Phaw, but she showed that she is a good shooter as well. During one of the fights Yde tripped over the water bowl of our cats and had to clean up. Vibeke is a much easier target because she doesn't shoot that fast. She used a different approach and collected all the nerf bullets Yde shot at her until he ran out. Conclusion: women are not such an easy target as thought. Anyway, they had a lot of fun with their presents and Vibeke has been singing Christmas songs in front of the tree hoping to get another surprise in the morning. (posted by Christina, 25/12/10)

Our Toad Farm

Last week Yde got some tadpoles from a friend and that was the start of making our own toad farm. After putting the tadpoles in a glass jar we all enjoyed watching them grow and change. They now are developing hind legs and we transferred them into a large bowl with rocks in it. In the meantime Yde discovered more spawn in the swimming pool and took it out because the chlorine will kill it. We have put the spawn into a clean bowl, it developped well, and now we have even more tadpoles to take care of. We read on the internet how to raise tadpoles and until now everything is going well. Yde looks for water plants and big rocks to help the tadpoles grow into toads. This a fun way to turn the holidays into a educational experience. (posted by Christina, 24/12/10)

Another restaurant review

On our restaurant reviews I added another review. This time it's Korean food. Expect more reviews on Korean restaurants because I like the food and there is a complete Korean corner with numerous restaurants at Sukhumvit Soi 12.

Yesterday evening Christina and I went out for a walk. Although we did not plan it we ended up in one of these Korean restaurants at Sukhumvit Soi 12. The review will follow later, but restaurant Doo Rae had Kamja Tang and I tested it. Really not bad, other Korean restaurants over there also have Kamja Tang so soon I will find out where to get the best Kamja Tang in Bangkok (it's just one of my favorite Korean dishes). Instead of pictures

Instead of making pictures of X-mas decoration something on video says it all when we talk about plenty of lights in Bangkok. It's just a short clip, and Vibeke did not want to show her face because she was angry about not being able to choose a dvd when we bought some.

X-mas (2) and New Years Eve in Krabi

We took the car this evening to look at the X-mas decorations in downtown Bangkok. Most of the pictures we made were no good because taking them from a moving car doesn't work. Next Friday we will go walking with the whole family to make more and better pictures.

We also booked a house close to Krabi for our holiday, so that means celebrating New Years Eve on the beach. X-mas in Bangkok and swimming and snorkeling on the 1st of January, we cannot think of a better way to start 2011. (posted by Jitze, 12/12/10)

Food update and X-mas lights

On our restaurant reviews I added a review. It's a good one about Indian food.

Since the beginning of this week it is going faster and faster. It now looks like people everywhere start to decorate their homes with lights and especially hotels are starting to make fantastic X-mas decorations. Not just a Santa Claus, seas of light. The predominant colours are blue and green but some Thai go wild on the whole light spectrum. This weekend I will make some pictures to give you an impression about X-mas preparations in Thailand. Hua Hin

On Friday we went to Hua Hin for a nice weekend at the coast. Hua Hin is not far away, just a little bit more than two hours driving. Eight years ago we visited Hua Hin for the first time, Yde was only 6 months old and we drove through Thailand in a rented car. There are more hotels and resorts but basically it's pretty much the same.

We stayed at a very nice resort outside Hua Hin. We didn't want to stay in the city because that's just something you escape when going to Hua Hin.

The first evening on our way to the dining room we spotted a nocturnal moth and some night toads.

During daytime Yde and Vibeke had a lot of fun on the beach. To be honest I joined them. We dug and made dykes to fight the waves.

Hua Hin

We had to go back today because of Sinterklaas. Yde and Vibeke had to go home to check if Sinterklaas brought presents. He did and they were both very, very happy with all the small and big presents.

One very funny thing on our way back, look at this dog on the scooter. The lady was driving at least 70 kilometers per hour and that dog was having the time of his live. That's what I call a well trained dog.

Music!

The fact that Rammstein performed in Belgrade was already one of the musical highlights for me this year. But 10 minutes ago I fell of my chair. Through twitter I got a message that there was special news on the System of a Down website. They will play together again in 2011!!!!

It's one of the groups I admire most and I never thought there would be any opportunity for me to see them playing together again. When Serj Tankian performed in Zagreb to promote his solo album 'elect the dead' I immediately booked my ticket and drove from Belgrade to Zagreb to see him. As a solo artist he also makes great music, but to see SOAD in the original configuration must be awesome.

System of a Down

I booked two tickets, Christina also likes SOAD and I received the booking confirmation:
